Civil society strategies towards tax justice – what next?

Invitation to an International Workshop hosted by MISEREOR, Global Policy Forum and terre des hommes

Bonn, Germany, 13 September 2011

Dear friends and colleagues from the global movement for tax justice,

The International Tax Compact (ITC; an initiative of the German Development Ministry co-sponsored by other official partners) invites Civil Society Organizations and representatives from the business sector to a Dialogue Event on “How to Operationalize the International Tax and Development Agenda”. This Dialogue will take place in Bonn, Germany on 14 September 2011. It is directly linked to the 3rd governmental workshop of the ITC on 12 and 13 September. Invitations to the Dialogue Event fall under the responsibility of the ITC Secretariat (http://taxcompact.net).

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a one-day NGO workshop on “Civil society strategies towards tax justice – what next?” It will take place on 13 September - the day before the ITC Dialogue, in Bonn as well. With this workshop we would like to take stock of the tax related debates in international fora, particularly the G20, the OECD and the UN; we will exchange views and experiences from various regions and share information about the tax agenda of CSOs in Africa, Asia and Latin America; and we will discuss advocacy priorities and themes for the coming months. Key issues of the joint brainstorming and strategizing will be country-by-country reporting (Dodd-Frank and beyond), measures against tax dodging (lessons from the SABMiller and Glencore cases), and an update of the TJN’s Financial Secrecy Index 2011.

The draft programme of our workshop is attached to this invitation. While participation in the workshop is free of charge, travel and accommodation costs cannot be reimbursed by the organizers. Please feel free to contact us, if you need any further information or logistical support (europe@globalpolicy.org). In order to confirm your participation, please go to https://rsvp.globalpolicy.org/taxjustice2011 (registration deadline: 7 September 2011). We will send out further information and an updated programme in early September.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Bonn,

With best wishes

Jens Martens, Global Policy Forum

Georg Stoll, MISEREOR

Klaus Schilder, terre des hommes
